Cheapest milk....

I must admit I had always thought that the cartons of uht milk would work out cheaper than fresh milk but I was wrong!!! Fresh milk in Asda works out as 44p per litre whilst the cheapest uht milk is 57p per litre - although uht milk is handy as I always have a couple of cartons lurking in the cupboard.....you live and learn!

  5. Cost comparisons are always worthwhile. Dried milk used to be my go to choice @ $2.49/gallon equivalent, but I can easily find fresh fluid milk @ $1.99-$.2.49. I still keep it on hand for bread making, in a pinch. For emergency drinking, cereal, aeseptic cartons UHT you call it, is much more paletable. but pricey @ $4/gallon equivalent. Another factor is that while I can recycle the plastic bottles from fluid milk and the paper board from the instant, I have to trash the UHT cartons, for which I am charged 20 cents/lb. We actively make efforts to reduce our trash output as a result.

  6. I have found the same too, although I do feel for the poor farmers who are being priced out of it. My local 6am to 11am shop charges £2.70 for four pints!!!!! The tesco extra a little further down is £1 and the co-op further on is £1.40. At the Morrisons in town it is 98p for 2 litres (less than 4 pints) and the bottle has a right handed handle that left handers must loathe!

  7. Well, in Canada the cheapest is 4litre jug for $4.69. I keep cans of evaporated milk (on special .99/can) for cooking white sauces. It dilutes well.
